Monash Human Power (MHP) is a student run organisation based at Monash University, Clayton. The team's mission is to design and build a safe, fast and efficient human powered vehicle (HPV). A HPV is essentially a recumbent bicycle enclosed within an aerodynamic fairing, intended to reduce the air resistance to allow the cyclist to travel at incredible speeds along a straight track. The team's ultimate goal is to compete in the International Human Power Vehicle competition held in Battle Mountain, Nevada, USA and claim the top speed land record for a human powered vehicle. Founded in 2014 by the wind tunnel management of Monash University, in 2016 MHP moved to a larger and more interdisciplinary team of students from Engineering, Industrial Design, Business and Science. Student members are given the opportunity to apply concepts and techniques acquired throughout their tertiary education and to to gain invaluable hands-on experience that will be useful for their chosen careers. Monash Human Power is currently in the process of developing the second iteration of their Human Powered Vehicle.
