Molten Aura Labs contributes to the ever-growing array of 33COE borosilicate colors already on the market, starting with a few of our favorites. Our goal is to provide glass artists with high-quality, consistent colors that are easily incorporated into current work while also inspiring new creations. We strive to make unique, artisan glass that is a joy to look at and to use. Adam and Aaron Wiens have varied backgrounds, from music to visual arts to engineering. After years exploring different creative paths, the brothers have converged into a shared passion for glass. Aaron Wiens is an artist and glassblower. His background building acoustic guitars as a luthier helped Aaron develop an eye for detail which led him to venture into fine art woodworking. Serendipitous events brought an opportunity for him to melt borosilicate as an apprentice. And since glass has always been an intriguing medium to him, he jumped at it. Now Aaron is engulfed in the never ending rabbit hole that is creating colored glass, and he's loving every second of it. Adam Wiens has a background in fine arts and worked in the video game industry for 20 years. Growing tired of looking at a screen all day, he began looking for ways to make color in his artwork more dimensional. So he began painting on layers of glass and eventually casting three dimensional glass forms. These experiments led to years of research regarding the chemistry of color and specifically how to create permanent coloration in high temperature glass melts. This knowledge is currently being applied to the development of borosilicate glass colors as well as other unique projects. Both Aaron and Adam live in the beautiful misty mountains of Asheville, NC with their families. They welcome helpful suggestions and color requests for their glass.
