Founded in 1886, the first school in what later became the SABIS® Network was established to provide a top-quality education that would make a difference in the lives of students. Recognizing a constant need for progress, the UAE has sought to implement and monitor high quality education standards by undertaking new policies, programs and initiatives. Throughout the Middle East, educational advancement is often impeded by insufficient focus on the English language, inadequate provision of technology as well as modern techniques of instruction and methodology. Stressing the importance of “modern curricula with assorted and non-monotonous means of training and evaluation”, the Emirates launched ambitious campaigns to develop each of these areas. At its foundation, lies the necessary funding, which in 2010 was earmarked at 7.5 billion Dirhams, as well as increased teacher training. Through its Teachers of the 21st Century and a two hundred million dirham share of this budget, the UAE hopes to train 10,000 public school teachers within the next five years, while also pursuing its scheduled goal of reaching 90% Emiratisation of its staff by 2021.

The University of Sharjah was established as a non-profit institution for higher education in October 1997 by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah and President of the University. UoS is a comprehensive academic institution with a distinctive learning style and a global vision. It is a pioneer in academia, scientific research and the arts in the UAE and the GCC region. UoS has almost 14,325 students representing 96 nationalities and 656 full-time faculty. Our university takes pride in being a major international center for learning, culture and education. The University employs renowned faculty from around the world and hosts a significant number of international students. It also sends its students to various international destinations on internship programs and accepts many visiting international students. UoS is licensed and its programs are accredited by the Commission for Academic Accreditation of the Ministry of Education's Higher Education Affairs Division in the United Arab Emirates. All engineering programs are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET http://www.abet.org/. The Bachelor of Science degree programs in computer science, IT & multimedia, chemistry, mathematics and biotechnology are accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET http://www.abet.org/. (applied science branch) All the programs in the college of communication are accredited by ACEJMC (Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communication) The College of Business Administration is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).
