Mobility Trust was founded in 1972 to develop special road vehicles for severely disabled people, building on the work of the electronic laboratories at the National Spinal Injuries Centre, Stoke Mandeville Hospital. Roger Jefcoate, deputy director there for ten years, was a founder of our charity and remains as honorary adviser and a very active Vice-President. Since then the need has changed from the development of new mobility aids to funding them. We now concentrate on providing powered wheelchairs and scooters for severely disabled children and adults who cannot obtain them through statutory sources or purchase such equipment themselves.
