Mobility Direct was established in 1998 as affordableoption.com. It was established by International Medical Equipment Company (IMEC) and was created to provide people with disabilities and their caregivers a direct source for medical equipment - primarily wheelchair replacement parts and other home health aids. In the early 2000s, the portfolio expanded to include wheelchairs and pediatric products. In 2011, the website was purchased by Ottobock HealthCare, a global leader in the manufacturing of prosthetics, orthotics, and other mobility aids whose mission is to enhance independence and mobility. In 2013, the site was transformed into mobilitydirect.com with new products, and in 2014 the site became one of the industry's first websites optimized for handheld devices. Mobility Direct is dedicated to offering disabled persons and their caregivers access to mobility related products with exceptional service and competitive pricing.
