Thought Forward Design, Inc. d/b/a Mobella is a product innovation company that develops human-centered mobility solutions for people with mobility limitations. We identify unmet needs, develop thoughtfully designed solutions, and partner with leading academic and industry organizations to bring innovations to market through licensing, IP acquisition, and collaborative development. It is a model built on the belief that great ideas deserve great partners. Our portfolio includes Skywalker, a next-generation walker and Mobella innovation that is the subject of a multi-year research collaboration with the University of Colorado Anschutz, including two university awards supporting its commercial development; ArmUp, a Mobella creation and design-led seating solution; and Afari, an all-terrain walker. Our partners and collaborators include the University of Colorado Anschutz, Pininfarina, Michael Graves Design, Williams Sonoma, and the University of Maine. Our work is grounded in lived experience. In 2012, Co-Founder Henry R. Kaufman was partially paralyzed by Guillain-Barré Syndrome. Determined to remain active and independent, he sought better ways to continue doing what he loved. Frustrated by the limited options available, he and his wife, Meryl, co-founded Mobella to reimagine what mobility products could be — creating solutions that better and more boldly represent the people they're made for. Mobella partners with leading academic institutions, health and human services organizations, designers, and strategic market partners to advance thoughtfully designed mobility solutions from concept through commercialization to scaled market adoption.
