World Rugby is the world governing and law making body for the game of rugby union. World Rugby has several main functions including:
Governance of the Laws and Regulations and their enforcement
Tournament owners and managers
Global game development through member unions funding via grants and strategic investment programmes, and delivery of education and development programmes
Game promotion
Rugby Australia was formed in 1949 to give the game a national governing body which represents all levels of Rugby in Australia and across all eight member union states and territories.
The inaugural meeting of the Australian Rugby Football Union was held on November 25, 1949 with 11 delegates from New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia, Tasmania and Victoria.
It is a member of World Rugby and was established as a company in 1985.
New Zealand Rugby (NZR) leads, supports, grows and promotes New Zealand's game.
NZR has offices in Wellington and Auckland as well as a number of staff based around New Zealand. NZR is one of New Zealand's largest sports organisations, with a team of employees committed to ensuring that our national game is run smoothly and effectively at all levels, all over New Zealand. As a modern, professional sport, rugby encompasses a wide range of activities and functions.
Our people manage our national teams, administration of our national competitions, and participation in international competitions and matches - including Test matches - as well as assisting community rugby throughout the country. NZR has direct relationships with its members, including all 26 Provincial Unions, Super Rugby organisations and commercial and charity partners as well as international rugby bodies and stakeholders, such as the New Zealand Government.
