MLB Engineers, Inc. is a specialized design/consulting engineering firm serving the petroleum and natural gas industry since 1973. The organization is primarily involved with the analysis of the various dynamic characteristics associated with compression and/or pump equipment required to transport gases and liquids. The organization founder, Marvin L. Barta , P.E., began his career with Southwest Research Institute in 1959 as a research physicist where his principal involvement was the PCRC (Pipeline and Compressor Research Council) research program dealing with the study of the dynamic characteristics of gas compression equipment as they effect safety, performance and economics. He was senior project engineer of the SGA (Southern Gas Association) analog computation laboratory providing engineering services to oil, gas and process companies. Next, as chief engineer at CB/Southern, the compressor packager for Cooper Industries, he had oversight over engineering designs for compression systems. Beginning in the late 1970's and 1980's as new digital acoustical piping simulation programs were developed by various engineering service organizations, MLB provided engineering consulting services to verify and apply these digital programs (calculation procedures) comparing them to results obtained from the SGA System Analog and field data where possible. The engineering effort provided pre-simulation piping designs with pros and cons for various bottle/piping design approaches to determine viable piping design solutions to control gas pulsation induced vibrations. In 1992, MLB conducted an in-house verification of the digital acoustical simulation program ( PULS) developed by the Nova Corporation working closely with SSD Engineering Consultants (Rebis/Bentley), the software licensee, for its potential use by MLB Engineers, Inc. as a design tool for acoustical analyses of piping systems.
