The MIT School of Science is the global leader in conducting basic research at the scientific frontier. We pursue answers to deep philosophical questions—How does our brain give rise to our mind?—as well as issues with immediate practical implications—How does climate change affect the intensity of hurricanes? Nergis Mavalvala is MIT's 11th Dean of Science. Mavalvala is also the Curtis and Kathleen Marble Professor of Astrophysics and a principal investigator at the MIT Kavli Institute for Astrophysics and Space Research.
