Mimaansa - India Information

Mimaansa works for children with Learning Disabilities studying in the under resourced municipal schools enabling them learn. Mimaansa works towards capacity building of municipal schools to better accommodate students with 'Learning Disabilities' in the mainstream classroom. Mimaansa has developed a strong comprehensive program to ensure the overall development of children with such disabilities. Currently we are working with 6 schools in Thane District towards capacity building to better accommodate students with 'Learning Disabilities' in the mainstream classroom. Within a period of four years with a Specialised Program we have managed to reach to over 1300 students and trained 60 Municipal School teachers. The Program has been so well received that Thane Municipal Corporation has given Mimaansa the permission to expand to 2 more schools from June 2017 and implement district wide teachers training program in association with Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan. With the help of this partnership Mimaansa will now reach out to teachers and children. Though 'inclusive education ' is a mandate by Right to Education Act and the Sharva Shiksha Abhiyan the situation in most schools is not in accordance. Learning Disabled students' needs are often ignored by teacher as well as parents due to lack of awareness and resources to support them. Students are often being pushed through the years up until Grade 8, two years before their major school exams and by then it’s a clear case of ‘the missed bus’. The answer to this was early intervention and Mimaansa with its ‘Response To Intervention’ model took form in March’2012 under the public charitable trust act Regn No. E-7268 .
