We are Birmingham Museums Trust, the largest independent museum trust in the UK, responsible for managing the museum sites and collections owned by Birmingham City Council. With an encyclopaedic collection of over one million objects and specimens covering art, human history, science and industry, and natural science, our mission is to bring Birmingham out by shining new light on people’s stories, collections and creativity. When Tate first opened its doors to the public in 1897 it had just one gallery, displaying a small collection of British artworks. Today we have four major galleries and the national collection of British art from 1500 to the present day and international modern and contemporary art, which includes nearly 80,000 artworks.
