WORK OF HANDS AND HEARTS Mifuko is a Finnish design company with deep roots in the red soil of rural Kenya. Mifuko products - colorful Kiondo baskets, home accessories, jewellery and practical everyday bags - combine contemporary Finnish design with traditional Kenyan handicraft techniques. All products are handmade in Kenya by women´s self help groups in rural villages and in small workshops in the cities of Nairobi and Mombasa. Mifuko products find inspiration in the colors and vibes of the countryside villages and busy cities where they come from. Mifuko´s main article is a colorful collection of Kiondo baskets. Stylish, durable and versatile, clever Mifuko baskets are great for many uses. Kiondos come in a variety of sizes and in both solid colors and distinctive Mifuko stripe patterns. Mifuko was founded in 2009 by designers Minna Impiö and Mari Martikainen. Today Mifuko products are sold in department stores, specialty stores and boutiques in approximately 20 countries around the world. MIFUKO MEANS POCKET Mifuko is a certified member of World Fair Trade Organization WFTO and all Mifuko products are produced following the principles of Fair Trade. Mifuko´s partner workshops and self help groups employ many underprivileged, such as slum youth and people with disabilities or economically disadvantaged rural backgrounds. The word mifuko means pocket in Swahili. We make sure that everyone gets something in their pocket - our products bring joy and happiness to both their makers in Kenya and their users around the globe. Mifuko is founder of a charity association Mifuko Trust, which aims to support Kenyan artisans in a sustainable way by improving their entrepreneurship skills.
