Our mission is to celebrate and preserve Africa’s rich culinary heritage. Founder and Executive Chef Selassie Atadika created Midunu, Midunu Chocolates, and The Midunu Institute as love letters to Africa - a dedication to celebrate and preserve Africa’s rich culinary heritage. We play at the crossroad where culture, community and cuisine intersect with environment, sustainability and economy. This thought process is reflected in our organizations. Midunu is a monthly nomadic dining experience located at different locations around Accra, Ghana. Guests sit at communal tables and enjoy 5-course meals that embody 'New African Cuisine'. Our dishes highlight local, seasonal, and underutilized indigenous African ingredients to deliver Africa’s bounty to the table. Midunu Chocolates is one of the first artisanal Ghanaian chocolate companies to bring ‘Made in Ghana’ chocolates directly to consumers in Ghana, US, and Canada. The Midunu Institute documents and preserves Africa's culinary heritage. Midunu is short for "va midunu" in Ewe, one of 250 languages spoken in Ghana, meaning "Come, let's eat." A common phrase Selassie's father would say to call the family to dinner. In many African cultures, it's rare to eat alone. There's always an invitation, no matter how much or how little you have, to always invite others to join. With Midunu, we invite everyone to explore Africa's rich culinary heritage through food.
