MidSummer Macon Information

MidSummer Macon, Inc. was established in response to a Chamber of Commerce study in 1987. The study noted that there were few opportunities for children and youth to study art disciplines in a structured and professional environment. With the support of the publisher of The Macon Telegraph and Wesleyan College's commitment to underwrite the start-up costs, MidSummer Macon opened on Wesleyan's campus in June 1989. MidSummer Macon began as a boarding camp for talented teens, but has expanded through the years to include day camps for younger students, arts performances & events, and a community concert series. Every summer, the MidSummer Macon Music and Arts Festival brings aspiring young visual and performing artists and musicians together from all over the United States to join with professional musicians, artists, dancers, authors, poets, actors and aesthetes to create a fantastic, artistic community in Macon, Georgia. Under the guidance of a highly qualified faculty, students explore, discover and enhance their artistic abilities through day and residential camps, professional performances, lectures, and exhibits. MidSummer Macon also presents an extensive community performance series to the local community. Located on the campus of historic Wesleyan College, one of the nation's leading liberal arts colleges, MidSummer Macon gives children, teens, and adults the opportunity to explore their artistic talents in the five major art disciplines: theater, creative writing, music, art, and dance. In 2006 MidSummer Macon became the presenting organization for First Night Macon, a non-alcoholic family New Year's Eve celebration of the arts.
