Metis is building a new model for investing in education reform across Africa. We know that systems change is happening too slowly; Uwezo has shown that in East Africa alone, there has been no significant improvement in children's learning outcomes over the past five years. Metis tackles the root cause of this problem by supporting a movement of African leaders, entrepreneurs, and investors to build higher quality education initiatives and accelerate the pace of education innovation. First, we create a showcase for higher quality in an African context, through a Fellowship that strengthens collective impact in Nairobi's ecosystem by developing leaders. Then, we use Nairobi as a hub to impact education systems across Africa, through a Residency that brings African education leaders to learn from Nairobi's ecosystem and return to drive change in their home countries. We also support allies such as investors and government officials to learn from our leaders. Our final program, the Metis Learning Lab, provides impact measurement tools and spaces for collective action such as a co-working space, events, and an annual Pan-African Summit. Our first cohort of Fellows began in September 2017, and our first cohort of Residents begins in January 2019. More at our website: www.metisfund.org
