Mesg Information

Mesg was intended to be a modern day messenger that's fully backwards compatible with email. Chat, channels, voice calls, file sharing – but with the reach of still being able to interact seamlessly with anyone still on plain old email. We built a federated protocol as a proof of concept that was capable of instant messaging over the Mesg protocol, had groups/channel functionality, and seamlessly integrated with Email by falling back to sending/receiving SMTP when an address was not on the Mesg protocol. The dream was to build Email 2.0. The GTM was nearly impossible for a small team though, and sadly reached the conclusion that this kind of technology should really be sponsored and built by the email giants – it should be an upgrade to their user base, not a product they have to switch to.
