Kendall-Jackson Winery has been operating since 1982 when it released its first vintage of Chardonnay. Today, the winery is committed to producing the highest quality wines. Opus One is the story of a shared dream of two great men of wine: Baron Philippe de Rothschild of Château Mouton Rothschild and renowned Napa Valley vintner Robert Mondavi. By combining the great winemaking traditions and innovations of both families, the founders’ singular goal was to create an exceptional wine in the heart of the Napa Valley. Situated 60 miles north of San Francisco in the Oakville appellation, Opus One’s vineyards comprise 169 acres and are planted to the traditional grape varieties of Bordeaux: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot. Offering about 25,000 twelve-bottle cases each year, the winery remains dedicated to uncompromised quality. Opus One’s sole purpose is to express the vision and passionate spirit of its founders for generations to come.

Established in 1882, the revival of the winery begins with the purchase and reunification of the estate by Jim Barrett in 1972. In a few short years, Chateau Montelena put California at the forefront of the wine world by winning the Judgment of Paris in 1976. At this pivotal event, Chateau Montelena’s 1973 Chardonnay was selected as the top-ranking wine in a blind tasting of 4 white Burgundies and 6 California Chardonnays. Today, Chateau Montelena is honored on the National Register of Historic Places and stands as a quality icon, consistently producing some of the finest and sought-after wines in California.
