Mentics Information

We are Oliver and Rachel Odhner. We live in Kempton, Pennsylvania. We have been happily married for 60 years, and are the proud parents of 7, with 26 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Two of our sons, Roy and Geoff, and one of our grandsons, Toby, have aided us in creating this website to help promote, discuss, and continue to develop the ideas that we have put forth in our recently published book, Mentics: A Mind Modeling Method. We encourage you to read on and allow your interest to be aroused. After all, the book is as much about you as it is about us! The Purpose of Mentics: The purpose of Mentics is to analyze how the mind works. There can be many practical and intellectual applications for a deeper knowledge of how the mind works. Here are just a few examples. A better understanding of how memory works can lead to development of better memory techniques. A better understanding of how the mind handles traumatic events may lead to more effective psychotherapy. Better understanding of how one's mind is structured can lead to truer introspection and thus a better understanding of one's self. What Exactly is Mentics: Mentics is a new and fascinating discipline based on subjective premises designed to model subjective mental data with precision. The lack of such a method has inhibited the fields of cognitive science and psychology from developing a general theory of mind. To be scientific, fields of study have tried to limit their findings to strictly objective data. That practice works well for organizing experience that can be measured, shared and confirmed by others. But introspective data are hard to measure and share, and on that basis they are difficult to organize for gaining the necessary consensus. Mentics is meant to give subjective data scientific credibility.
