Meduza (meduza.io) is a public interest media organization founded in Latvia in 2014 by a group of journalists who left Russia to escape political censorship. In exile, outlawed in Russia and under constant pressure, Meduza became the largest independent Russian news outlet with almost 20 million monthly readers. Since the imposition of war censorship and the increased internal repressions that followed the country’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Meduza stood by its readers inside Russia and became an important civic institution. Meduza produces articles, investigations, news stories, explainers, podcasts and videos, covering a wide spectrum of topics in its reporting. We broadcast from every available platform, and efficiently bypass Russian internet censorship. Importantly, we continue to report from the ground, working with a network of freelancers inside the country.
