From a single ram sale in 1992 to Australia’s largest prime lamb seedstock supplier.
LAMBPRO was founded in 1992 in Holbrook, NSW by Tom Bull. After returning from university and spending time with USA-based Superior Farms, Tom recognised the power of data-driven breeding and the commercial value of understanding meat quality, yield and market requirements. At a time when many in the industry saw hybrid ram breeding as an unlikely success, that thinking proved to be well ahead of its time.
From the beginning, LAMBPRO was built on a different idea: that sheep breeding should not start with pedigree alone. It should start with the customer, the production system, and the market the final product is heading toward.
That philosophy continues to define LAMBPRO today. We breed genetics for commercial producers who need sheep that do more than perform on paper. They need to work in the paddock, suit modern labour realities, improve flock productivity, and produce lamb that aligns with processor requirements, premium programs and end-market demand.
Today, LAMBPRO sells more than 3,500 rams annually and provides genetics to more than 400 lamb producers across Australia. More than 1.2 million lambs are produced each year from LAMBPRO genetics.
Those numbers reflect more than growth. They reflect Lambpro’s role as a market-focused, customer-focused breeding business with a deep understanding of both production and product. Our work is guided by data, commercial observation and continual refinement, ensuring our clients have access to genetics that are relevant not only to their operation, but to the changing demands of the lamb industry.
We believe the best genetics are not simply high performing. They must also be commercially relevant — delivering value to the producer, consistency to the supply chain, and a product that fits the market.
That is the foundation LAMBPRO was built on, and it remains the standard we breed to today.
