Nectar Farms is an agri-business dedicated to transforming the current Australian farming model. Founded in 2014 on the belief that successful agri-business can work hand-in-hand with the local community, whilst also safeguarding the environment, our "smart farming" system focuses on glasshouses, hydroponics and high-wire cultivation. We work in partnership with leading disruptive agri-business firms, as well as with local councils and communities, indigenous groups and educational institutions. We are currently building our first two projects - one in Stawell, VIC and the other in Oberon, NSW, totalling 80 hectares of glasshouse facilities. We will utilise the latest technology available to agriculture to establish a portfolio of farms; growing high-margin crops on low grade land, within close proximity to population centres. The "smart farming" approach enables Nectar Farms to maintain a strategic competitive advantage. By growing in protected cropping environments, using leading-edge technologies, and having 52-week production windows and rapid harvest protocols, Nectar Farms will ensure consistent delivery of quality produce and year-round supply capability at scale. By combining the technologies of climate-controlled greenhouses and hydroponics, it is evident that the cost/benefit of this form of farming is considerable versus traditional broadacre, field farming. In addition, the business model is completely modular and can take the form of multiple glasshouses, in close proximity or at different sites, to create a food hub. This enables supply to local markets, supermarkets or sufficient production for export. The ability to provide a consistent, premium supply of vegetables is favourable when trying to secure off-takes and contracts with major importers, wholesalers and retail buyers.
