The MCAF was founded on August 16, 1950. It is a secondary cooperative society grouping about 8,000 small sugar cane planters, who form part of 154 Co-operative Credit Societies affiliated to the federation. The MCAF acts as the mouthpiece of the planting community grouped in co-operatives and therefore is represented on the boards and committees of several institutions which are closely associated with the sugar industry. The representatives have a say in the decision-making process and as such safeguard and protect the interests of small planters.
