‘MBU Ltd. for interbank services (MeđuBankarske Usluge) and information engineering’ was founded in the late 1993 at initiative of 23 Croatian banks, through expert bodies of the Associations of Banks at the Croatian Chamber of Commerce with the purpose of coordinating, designing, developing and operating common infrastructure to support bank card operations in Croatia. Since 2007 Erste Group is a major shareholder and MBU became shared card processing service centre for Erste Group banks in Central and Eastern Europe. Core businesses are payment card processing, including issuing of debit, credit and prepaid cards and acquiring on ATM, POS terminals and E-Commerce. In addition to 23 clients in Croatia, MBU is currently processing Erste Group Banks in Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Slovakia and Ukraine.
