Mbiotics develops microbial technologies to control and engineer animal–microbe interactions in marine and environmental systems. Many marine organisms rely on microbes to regulate key biological processes such as settlement, development, immunity, and survival. However, these interactions are difficult to control in applied settings, limiting progress in coral reef restoration, aquaculture, and environmental engineering. Mbiotics is building a platform of technologies that translate microbial biology into scalable tools, including: • ReefTiles™ — a non-living microbial coating that induces larval settlement on marine substrates • Bacterial contractile injection systems (“molecular syringes”) for delivering proteins into animal cells These technologies enable precise, programmable control over biological processes in marine organisms and their environments. Applications include coral reef restoration, shellfish aquaculture, biofouling control, and marine biotechnology. We are actively seeking collaborators and partners for research, pilot testing, and deployment.
