Mason Township Information

Mason Township is 20 square miles in size; half the normal Michigan township, divided into 1,400 plus parcels. We are largely a farming community, with the potential for significant commercial development along the M 217 corridor which is at the southeastern border of the Township. We are a zoned community with a population of 2,500 people, and one voting precinct at the Township Hall. Mason Township has 41.87 miles of County roads, and US 12, the Old Sauk Indian Trail, runs east to west from border to border. Of our roads, 13.97 miles are County primary, 23.75 miles are paved local, and 4.15 miles are graveled local. Interestingly, there is another Mason Township in Michigan. It is located in Twining, north of Bay City in Arenac County. Twining has a population of 192. The Mason Township Hall has significant historical value to township residents. Built in 1874-75, it was once a two-room schoolhouse, District No. 5 Schoolhouse. Today it is home to both the Township offices and Cass County Library's Mason/Union Branch Library.
