Every examination script starts in one room. What happens after it leaves that room determines whether results are released on time, corrections can be explained and every student’s work can be accounted for. Most tertiary institutions do not have a marking problem. They have a visibility problem. Scripts move from invigilators to examination officers, lecturers, moderators, registry teams and result officers, while progress is tracked through paper registers, spreadsheets, calls and memory. When the process works, nobody notices. When it breaks, a script may go missing, a lecturer may repeat work, a result may be delayed and the institution may struggle to explain how the final score was produced. That is the problem Markelo was built to solve. Markelo is an examination operating system for universities, polytechnics and colleges of education that still use paper answer booklets. We are not replacing paper examinations. We are building the digital structure around what happens after students submit their scripts.
