MARE is a software consulting company founded in 1985 by computer science graduates coming from the leading scientific University of Pisa. Our mission is to work with clients at a highly technical level, analysing their issues in order to design the best computer-based solutions. Our know-how has been focused on distributed systems integration and on object-oriented software development. We have been especially successful in banking and tourism, mainly in Ferry Booking Systems. In computer science applications and in general in modernizing the distribution of the Ferry product, Mare has played a key role in implementing new technologies and new ways of distributing in the Mediterranean ferry market. MARE has infact had a strategical influence during its twentysix years of activity, introducing most of the innovations that have taken place in selling the Ferry product: distribution on private data communication networks (back in 1990 on videotex) and through airline networks (Sigma-Galileo, Amadeus and Amadeus Start, Sabre), the introduction of virtual tickets (fax-tickets, e-mail tickets), the implementation of the first complete Internet booking and buying procedure and, last but not least, the introduction of Yield Management techniques that have become critical for commercial competition. Thanks to this technology we provide key tools for the dynamic management of prices which allows our clients to optimize revenue and maximize usage of their ships.
