Mar Mac Farms Information

Mar Mac Farms is a fifth generation farm located southwest of Brandon, Manitoba. Blair and Lois McRae were both raised on Purebred cow/calf operations. Blair was raised on the current Mar Mac location, by his parents Allan and Marg McRae. They exhibited many Pen of 5 Champion Steers at the Royal Manitoba Winter Fair in the early 80's. Blair started with livestock at a young age in the South Brandon Carroll 4-H Beef Club. He was a founding member of the Canadian Simmental Association and was actively involved in the Manitoba Simmental and Manitoba Angus Association, director on the Provincial Exhibition of Manitoba and was a leader of the South Brandon Carroll 4-H Beef Club. In 1980, the Angus cows were sold and the Simmental breed was introduced to the Mar Mac program. The Simmental program grew with the use of some of these sires; Bar 5 Administrator, Bushwacker, New Deal, Allstar, Maxim, Tennasee and Tombstone. A highlight of the program is Bar 5 Adminisrator. This sire left phenomenal progeny along with being the number 1 weaning weight and number 1 yearling weight sire in the breed. Lois (Gordon) was raised on a purebred beef farm southwest of Souris, Manitoba, Kinnaber Cattle Co. Lois along with her parents, Bob and Joyce Gordon and her siblings, raised Shorthorns, Polled Herefords and Simmental Cattle. She was a founding member of the Canadian Junior Hereford Association, 4-H member and leader, director on the Manitoba Simmental and Manitoba Angus Associations. Lois is currently the chairperson on the Manitoba Youth Beef Roundup. In 1983, Blair and Lois got married and added Red Angus to the Mar Mac Program by purchasing 3 cows from Wayne Heape. Red McRae's Blazer was one of the first herd sires raised in the program. As the years went by the Red Angus program has grown to 125 breeding females with the use of Blazer, Bullseye, Ribeye, Detour and Neptune.
