Maples Sheet Metal Works, established in 1919, was first located on Holmes Ave in downtown Huntsville. In 1930 we moved to 108 Meridian Street adjacent to Auto Electric and just a few doors north of Lewter Hardware. Our next move was in 1959 to University Drive, and in 1986 I built a new facility at our present location, 313 Cahill Dr., off north Washington Street. For the past 86 years, four generations of the Maples family have owned and operated Maples Sheet Metal Works, beginning with my grandfather, Mr. George Ree Maples, in 1919. My father, Mr. Gordon L. Maples, for whom I am named, worked in the company as a boy during the late 1920's and early 1930's and started full time there around 1937. My name is Gordon M. Maples and I went to work for the company in 1960. My daughter, Cathy Maples Pfeiffer, joined me in 1990 and is the fourth-generation member of our family to work for Maples Sheet Metal. Maples Sheet Metal Works, always a sheet metal business, catered to residential customers with metal needs, from gutters to cellar door covers. Our commercial and industrial work was tied to the textile industry, such as blow pipes, dust collectors and cotton gin work. In 1933 Maples Sheet Metal Works become a Lennox Dealer for Lennox Torrid Zone coal furnaces. We maintained these furnaces and automatic stokers until the mid to late 1950's. After the mid 1950's when the "mills" closed down, we began installing Lennox central cooling systems, including some water-cooled systems, and eventually all residential air cool HVAC systems. The 1960's were the "moon shot" years for Huntsville. Large businesses moved into Huntsville in support of NASA and Marshall Space Flight Center, Boeing, Chrysler, Hayes. We did support work, ductwork, fume exhaust etc. In the mid 1960's, I become interested in stainless steel fabrication. I made trips to other stainless steel fabrication shops to learn what I could to weld and fabricate it. Stainless steel is a very unique material, requiring special skills to weld and polish. The process is an individual art; when it is done correctly, it is a beautiful product. We have continued this type of fabrication over the years and I believe we can please you with our stainless steel skills. In the 1990's we added a Plasma Cutting table capable of cutting AutoCAD engineered parts, special shapes and fittings. This machine greatly enhanced our fabrication capability. Today we are considered a general sheet metal shop with fabrication skills. We can provide fabricated items from materials of galvanized steel, aluminum, hot roll and cool roll steel, paint bond steel, and some painted sheets with stock colors available. We specialize in industrial ventilation, fume and dust removal, guards, commercial kitchen stainless steel work and many other sheet metal related services. As in the past, we continue today as a small family-owned shop with the same goal we have had for almost a century, which is to please our customers.
