Bedford Girls’ School is a vibrant independent day school for girls aged 7–18, formed by the merger of two distinct and respected Harpur Trust girls’ schools: Dame Alice Harpur School and Bedford High School for Girls.
Since our foundation, we have built firmly upon their rich heritage and are working towards our ambition to become one of the country's foremost and respected girls' schools.
As an exceptional, dynamic and exciting place of learning, we place pupils at the heart of all we do. Bedford Girls' School offers a future-inspired curriculum, keeping in line with the latest pedagogical thinking, ensuring that the school is a creative and inspiring place to be. Our expert understanding of the unique needs and ambitions of girls and young women imbues us with the ability to ensure everyone reaches their potential academically, socially, ethically and individually.
We deliver excellent academic results through GCSE, A Level and the IB Diploma. We excel on the sports field, reaching national finals across a multitude of sports, and we frequently win awards across our co-curricular disciplines.
Situated on the banks of the River Great Ouse in Bedford we are equal distance from the M1 and A1, and easily accessible to girls coming from Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire, East Northamptonshire, Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire.
In addition to our regular Open House events, we actively welcome parents and girls to visit for a tour of the school and gain an insight into what makes our school community so special, which can be arranged by calling 01234 361900 or e-mailing admissions@bedfordgirlsschool.co.uk.

For over 450 years The Harpur Trust has been inspiring and supporting the people of Bedford to help them improve their lives. Our aim is for everyone to have pride in our community and to realise their own potential.
• We give grants to local community projects; around £1 million per year.
• We look after older people in our almshouses and other accommodation.
• We support, promote and provide education.
We are the third largest employer in Bedford, with over 1,100 people working for us either directly or in one of our schools.
We own, manage and support the four, independent Harpur Trust Schools; Bedford School, Bedford Girls' School, Bedford Modern School and Pilgrims Pre-preparatory School.
We are also proud sponsors of the HEART Academies Trust, consisting of Bedford Academy, Shortstown, Shackleton and Cauldwell Primaries.
Bishop Stopford School is a forward thinking and high achieving learning community, with strong roots and long-standing traditions. We seek to provide an outstanding education for all our students, and encourage all – no matter what their starting points – to achieve as highly as they can.
