Brewery Omer Vander Ghinste is the brewery of fine beers like OMER. Traditional Blond, LeFort, Tripel LeFort, Bockor , BLAUW export beer, Kriek Max, Cuvée des Jacobins, VanderGhinste RoodBruin, ...
When Omer Vander Ghinste started the brewery in 1892, he gave his beers his own name, as this was common in those days. He promoted his beers by placing stained glass windows with the words “Bieren Omer Vander Ghinste” in the front windows of the pubs. As these windows were very expensive, it was no option to replace them at every change of generation. Therefore every firstborn son was baptised ‘Omer’. The brewery was successively managed by Omer (1892-1929), Omer Remi (1929-1961) and Omer (1961-2007).
Today the management and the well preserved secrets are in hands of Omer Jean Vander Ghinste. Nowadays, these handmade windows are still present in the street scene and have been the inspiration for ‘the look and feel’ of OMER. Traditional Blond.
We are not going to claim that working for an independent, family brewer like Duvel Moortgat is as spectacular as landing on the moon, but it is nevertheless very special. We have been brewing for four generations now, since 1871. Since the very beginning our family is devilishly possessed by the quality of every drop, every barrel and every bottle of the 1.4 million hectoliters of specialty beer that we produce annually. We use the best, natural ingredients, with a great deal of patience and respect for the planet.
Almost 1,400 colleagues (soon 1,401?), from Puurs to Shanghai and from Lyon to Cooperstown, Kansas City and Paso Robles (USA), apply themselves enthusiastically to their task every day. We even achieved a top-ten place in the list of Belgian companies with the best reputation. #Proud. Maybe it’s the scent of Duvel in the air, maybe it isn’t half bad to work here. Just come and check it out. With gems like Duvel, La Chouffe, Liefmans, Maredsous, De Koninck and Vedett, we can captivate fans of specialty beers both in and beyond Belgium.
Alarmed by a trend of making formerly bitter beers sweeter to please a bigger audience, Guido Devos and Nino Bacelle decided to start their own brewery. Brewery De Ranke was born and immediately took its own course, without compromise. Following their own taste, they start producing bitter and well-balanced beers.
De Ranke makes the conscious choice of using only whole hops in the brewing process, so no hop extracts or pellets. These whole hops are the reason behind the distinctive hoppy, often bitter and well-balanced flavours of the De Ranke-beers.“Because we use whole hops brewing is more labor-intensive and it takes longer”, the brewers explain. “But when you take taste, quality and brewing tradition into account, using whole hops is the only logical choice we can make.”
The De Ranke-team gets international praise for re-introducing hop flowers to Belgian brewing and we are known for our authentic beers with pronounced flavours. The brewery is still viewed by many in the international brewing world as one of the pioneers for hoppy, bitter beers. But the brewery has a strong reputation for making sour beers as well. We use our own beer and let it age in wood barrels, later we make a blend with Lambic.
