The average American drinks 215 bottles of water every year. That means that as a country, we throw 50 billion plastic water bottles into landfills every year. Meanwhile, over 1 billion people on the planet do not have access to clean drinking water. In Africa, a child dies every 20 seconds from water borne illness. Maji is a water bottle company aimed at solving the world’s water crisis. We want to change the way that people drink, choosing to rock our stainless steel water bottles instead of needlessly wasting money on disposable plastic water bottles. We’re hardly the first environmentally friendly water bottle company, but we are the first to recognize that the water crisis is a whole lot bigger than us. That’s why we donate 25% of our revenue to charity: water. In doing so, we enable our customers to give back to a cause that they care about. It’s a model pioneered by companies like Tom’s and Simply Sea, and it’s something we’ve applied to life’s most basic necessity: water. By structuring Maji in this way, we believe that we can provide water to more people by tapping thousands of customer- philanthropists rather than relying on the private contributions of a few.
