Macular Disease Foundation Australia was established in 2001 as the Macular Degeneration Foundation. Dr Paul Beaumont FRACS FRANZCO AM, was the founding director of Macular Degeneration Foundaton and served the first Chairperson's term from 2001 to 2004. Dr Beamont had a vision to develop a patient-focused organisaton to support those living wih or affected by macular degeneration. The Foundation changed its name to Macular Disease Foundation Australia in January 2012, to reflect the need for support and services to be available across all macular diseases, including diabetic eye disease. The Foundation’s programs are directed towards education, awareness, research, representation and support for those with macular disease, their family and carers. Our mission is to reduce the incidence and impact of macular disease in Australia.
