Low Power Company was created in 2010 with the goal of making computer servers that are actually efficient. The problem is that conventional servers, with their goal of being everything to every customer, waste most of the power they consume. That means that more than half the power they consume is not going towards sending packets down the network or computing numbers. Enter Low Power Company, or Lopoco for short. We are a startup that invested more than 2.5 man-years of R & D to create ultra efficient servers that consume 1/4 the power of conventional servers. Our servers aren't for every application, but the truth is they are the right server for about 80% of the market. The applications that run best on our servers are the classic server applications like Hadoop, Hive, Apache, nginx, database, email and file serving. Our servers are not disruptive to the customer: standard form factors, 64-bit X86 processors, and no proprietary hardware. They lend themselves to clustered deployments because each individual server consumes so much less power than a conventional server, 40 or more can be put in a 4.1KW rack. They also can be deployed in an office environment because they run cool and quiet. Cool & quiet also means they are more reliable, as heat and vibration are they two greatest causes of server failures.
