Loveland Center was established in 1962 by a group of parents of adults with developmental disabilities who sought to provide a productive and safe place for their adult children to go during the day. From the outset, the philosophy was to provide more than just a traditional sheltered workshop. The parents focused on creating a program which offered individualized services to empower adults with developmental disabilities to make informed decisions in regard to work, lifestyle, and citizenship so that they may become more self-sufficient and interconnected within the community. In the 49 years since its founding, Loveland Center has grown exponentially to provide invaluable services to the communities of Sarasota and Charlotte Counties. The organization currently serves 127 adults with developmental disabilities through a diverse set of programs and services. It is the mission of Loveland Center to help adults with developmental disabilities live their lives to the fullest. The agency’s primary goal is to promote self-determination and community involvement in the lives of the adults who receive services. They achieve their mission by providing the following programs and services: -Adult Day Training -Phase II Center, for those individuals who require a little extra care -Community Opportunities, which consists of Supported Employment and Supported Volunteering -Supported Living -Loveland Group Home
