Gluten is found in grains such as wheat, barley and rye. Wellshire recognizes the confusion and frustration often involved in the search for gluten-free foods and acknowledges clarity is the key to health for people following a gluten-free diet. We strive to offer our customers peace of mind through our labeling and customer service. All meat in its natural state is gluten free. Wellshire clearly lists all known allergens on product labels. Any presence of wheat, barley or rye is always disclosed in our ingredients listings. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), the federal health department that regulates our company, does not have a definition for "gluten free" other than to require that a product does not contain wheat, barley or rye grains as ingredients. Our gluten free meats do not contain wheat, barley or rye - hence they meet the USDA requirement for gluten free. While the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) does not regulate our company, we have been adhering to the stricter standard the agency has been considering adopting - to define gluten free as no more than 20 parts per million (PPM). This is also in line with the standards set forth by the World Health Organization and European Union. Further, the Wellshire products that meet the gluten free criteria as spelled out by the organizations listed above ALSO test at less than 10 PPM for the allergen. Wellshire is proactive in our commitment to continuously meet the rules and regulations of our critical governing bodies - as they relate to consumers' health and improve the quality of lives. Consumers can feel safe knowing Wellshire has in place strict policies, which meet USDA requirements, to prevent cross-contamination, in addition to a very comprehensive allergen program.
