Long Beach Building Healthy Communities Information

Building Healthy Communities is a long term effort to change the systems that make where you live a determinant of your life expectancy. Do you feel safe walking home? Do you feel safe eating the food you buy at your local grocery store? How often do you feel stressed because of your neighborhood? All of these factors and many many more have a direct link to our health and our mortality. Many of these conditions are driven by policies and practices that are driven by the very systems that are supposed to be serving the community. This effort is an initiative to change that. How will we do it? Well, first of all by working with the local community to understand their needs, their perspectives and their wants and then educating them to effectively engage these systems that have often taken them for granted.
