De werking van LOKO kan je eigenlijk in een drietal luiken onderverdelen. Er is ten eerste de studentenvertegenwoordiging in allerhande raden en op verschillende vergaderingen. Ten tweede zijn er ook activiteiten, op cultureel (LOKO Cultuur), sportief (LOKO Sport) of internationaal (LOKO International) vlak. LOKO organiseert onder andere LOKOmotion, de 24-urenloop en allerlei andere grote publiekstrekkers in en om het Leuvense studentenleven. Als derde luik biedt LOKO aan studenten een aantal diensten aan, zoals juridische ondersteuning bij problemen met de kotbaas.
