Lock29 is a vibrant canal-side destination in the heart of Banbury, bringing together independent food and drink, retail, events and community experiences in one unique location. Created to transform a previously underused space, Lock29 has become a thriving hub that plays a significant role in strengthening Banbury town centre. Since opening in 2020, it has helped increase footfall, champion local enterprise and create a destination where people choose to visit, spend time and connect. By combining hospitality, retail and cultural programming, Lock29 reflects the changing role of town centres—creating places that prioritise experience, community and independent business while supporting long-term economic growth. Since opening, Lock29 has: • Supported 41 independent businesses in permanent trading units. • Provided opportunities for numerous additional pop-up traders, makers and craft fair exhibitors. • Created and sustained approximately 120 jobs across food, retail and events. • Delivered an average of 50 events, activities and live performances each year. • Maintained 100% occupancy across its units for the past two years. • Welcomed 1.8 million visitors in 2025 alone.
