Born and predominantly raised in Kamloops, Lisa Mae Scruton has earned both of her degrees from Thompson Rivers University - first completing her Bachelor of Arts degree in 2011 with majors in Economics, Political Science, and English, and then completing her Juris Doctor in 2014 with the inaugural TRU Law graduating class. Following the completion of her Juris Doctor, Lisa Mae joined the law firm of Cates Ford Oien Epp in May 2014 as an articled student and was subsequently called to the BC bar on May 5, 2015. Lisa Mae continued with Cates Ford Oien Epp as an associate until July 2017, at which time she ventured off to commence her own firm as LMS Litigation. Lisa Mae has developed her legal practice with a focus on litigation, with a preference for criminal defence and family law. She adamantly believes in the importance of defending our rights which are entrenched in the Charter of Rights and Freedoms and ensuring the preservation of these rights. She believes that criminal defence in particular is an important pillar of Canadian justice and pursues it relentlessly. In addition, Lisa Mae has spent a large portion of her career also practicing family law and child protection, making Lisa comfortable in all three areas of law which frequently find themselves overlapping with one another. Lisas concern for access to justice has led her to take work in many under serviced legal communities across the province, including such places as Williams Lake, 100 Mile House, Clearwater, Lillooet, Merritt, Rossland, Creston, Prince George, and others. In addition, Lisa Mae strongly believes in the Charter-protected right to counsel, and accordingly also provides her services to individuals who cannot afford lawyers on their own and are appointed counsel through the Legal Services Society (Legal Aid).
