Lisa V Robinson Information

Lisa Robinsons work is underpinned by an interest in the process aspect of painting, with the outside world used as a catalyst for composition and mark making. The juxtaposition of light, shadow, colour and line observed in architectural details, whether in the urban landscape or film, provide inspiration for artwork. These visual details are deconstructed and placed on the surface as abstracted components. Numerous paintings are worked on in the studio, with the initial layers applied quickly using fluid brushstrokes, until the process becomes more measured. The combination of blocks of geometric opaque colour and structural lines convey a sense of depth to the flat surface of the painting; areas of the canvas are left bare to further reveal the painting process and convey a sense of lightness. The work remains untitled to allow the viewer to freely translate the relationship of the forms and gestures. Lisa studied at Manchester School of Art gaining First Class Honours in BA Fine Art Painting. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally and has been shortlisted for the New Lights Art Prize, ING Discerning Eye Prize and was a recipient of The Joan Day Painting Bursary. Lisa currently works in Studio A7, Westgate Studios, Wakefield. The studios are open to the public as part of the Wakefield Artwalk. "For ten years, venues across Wakefield have been opening their doors for a bi-monthly evening of visual arts, crafts, workshops, live music and performances. Everyone is welcome and most events are free, so there's never been a better time to discover a city that's bursting with culture."
