The Link Visiting Scheme is a registered charity whose mission is to combat social isolation among older people. This is achieved through volunteers carrying out regular home visits of between one and two hours per week and by running various events and activities designed to encourage social interaction. These include Understanding Computers sessions, pub lunches, bowls clubs, and singing groups. Our main focus is in the Wokingham Borough area in Berkshire where we regularly visit around 160 older people with a similar number of volunteers. We are also working with churches across the UK using a community franchising model to enable them to develop similar befriending schemes in their local communities.
