The mission of Lakeside School is to develop in intellectually capable young people the creative minds, healthy bodies, and ethical spirits needed to contribute wisdom, compassion, and leadership to a global society.
We provide a rigorous and dynamic academic program through which effective educators lead students to take responsibility for learning.
We are committed to sustaining a school in which individuals representing diverse cultures and experiences instruct one another in the meaning and value of community and in the joy and importance of lifelong learning.
Students typically come to Lighthouse School having struggled in other settings; especially those with a more educational focus. These challenges go far beyond the classroom setting and may accurately be described as life challenges. Our primary objective is to help all students gain the insights and skills necessary to successful master all challenges in life: at school, at home and in the community. Lighthouse is a school. As a school, we conform to all of the regulations and expectations of every school in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Lighthouse School has operated under the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education as an approved private, not-for-profit 501(c )(3) school serving in excess of 100 communities in the states of Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine for over four decades. Over these years, Lighthouse School staff have worked diligently to develop effective technologies that address the needs of students and their families and the communities that Lighthouse School is so privileged to serve. Why the Name "Lighthouse"?
The Westfield School is committed to the belief that technology instruction is an enhancement of the educational process. We are committed to integrating technology, where appropriate, in each academic discipline, grade level, and course offering. Technology serves as a resource through which students can discover, investigate, and solve problems. Students must be able to determine when to use technology, and then have the skills and resources to do so. In addition to offering a wireless campus, Westfield includes five computer labs. Three of the labs are located in one wing of the school for Middle and Upper School students, and a smaller lab is located in the Media Center. The Lower School lab is used for technology instruction in grades Pre-K through 5. To further integrate technology into the classroom, mobile carts with laptops and iPads are available for students and teachers. Also to enhance instruction, classrooms and science labs are equipped with interactive white boards and LCD projectors. We constantly look for ways to integrate technology throughout our campus and within our classrooms to enhance student learning. Our student information database gives our students an electronic identity campus wide along with student/parent global access to track academic progress and attendance. All of these services are secured using state-of-the-art firewalls and comprehensive internet security programs to keep student data private and confidential. The Westfield School will continue to enhance all areas of school operations including administration, business, academics, athletics, and student life with current technologies and practices.
