Lignaverda is an international non-profit dedicated to science-based reforestation and landscape restoration in semi-arid regions. Founded nearly two decades ago, the organisation has grown into an actor with measurable impact on the ground, with operations spanning Burkina Faso, Senegal and Namibia. Between 2009 and 2017, Lignaverda established 10,000 hectares of new forest in Burkina Faso. Since 2018, it has been working in Senegal alongside 118 partner villages to restore approximately 7,000 hectares of degraded land, with projected carbon sequestration of around 15 million tonnes of CO₂. The approach combines ecological restoration, tangible community benefits, and carbon certification under international standards (VERRA VM0047). In Namibia, a pilot project with drought-resistant species is currently under way. From late 2026, Lignaverda will begin establishing several hundred hectares of new forest there, extending its proven model to a second southern African landscape. The mission reaches well beyond planting trees. Lignaverda operates on a circular-economy logic and links landscape restoration to concrete benefits for local communities: food security, income generation, biodiversity recovery, and soil fertility. Scientific rigour, long-term monitoring, and transparent reporting form the backbone of every intervention. Lignaverda does not claim it will save the world. It does believe in setting an example: careful, patient, and collective work on the ground creates more lasting value than grand promises. The organisation rejects greenwashing partnerships and measures success in moral ambition as much as in hectares restored or tonnes of carbon sequestered.
