LightHouse Holyoke Information

LightHouse is changing what school can be. We are an accredited, personalized, competency-based learning community for students in grades 7–12, located in Holyoke and serving young people from across Western Massachusetts. Our model begins with relationship. Young people are known well, supported by trusted adults, and given the guidance and scaffolding they need to take increasing ownership of their learning and their lives. A central goal is the development of agency: helping young people build the vision, skills, confidence, and responsibility to make meaningful choices, pursue work that matters, navigate setbacks, and shape lives of their own. We see the whole world as a place of learning. LightHouse blurs the line between school and real life through classes, projects, creative work, internships, mentorship, public events, technical work, community partnerships, and opportunities to contribute in the real world. Progress is based on demonstrated mastery rather than seat time. Our competencies include mathematics, science, writing, research, and historical reasoning alongside deeply human capacities such as curiosity, creativity, communication, collaboration, empathy, perseverance, adaptability, judgment, leadership, and learning how to learn. As AI transforms access to information, creativity, communication, and work, we believe education must become more human, participatory, and connected to real life. Young people need both fluency with powerful new tools and the ability to ask good questions, think critically, work across difference, find meaning, and decide what is worth doing. We are working toward a world where young people are celebrated for their individual gifts and identities, and where people learn with each other, from each other, and for each other, grounded in connection and responsibility.
