Founded in 2009 to help families struggling with debt, Lighthouse has evolved into an advocate for Workplace Financial Literacy. Lighthouse believes that there is no better place than the Workplace to educate, equip and inspire individuals to lead a more purposeful life. Why the Workplace? For the employees, this is where the application of their finances begins. In 2011, statistics say that about 70% of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck. Wage garnishment and 401k hardship filings are up at an alarming rate. That means most employees are struggling to survive financially and your HR department is bogged down in paperwork. Other statistics show that in any workplace, 25% of the workforce is under extreme financial distress. Not only do many of today’s great companies feel a moral obligation to educate their employees about budgeting, saving, debt repayment strategies, investments, insurance, retirement and mortgages, they recognize that for the most part, their employees have no formal education on such topics. The education that they do have comes from the very people selling the aforementioned products!
