LexOutsource has supported Canadian lawyers and law firms since 2012 with legal research, analysis, drafting and written advocacy. We help with the part of a file that needs concentrated time and attention, without the commitment of adding permanent staff. Often the starting point is a client email, a chronology, short notes or a partial record. We work with counsel to clarify the issues, identify what matters and consider what may be missing. An assignment can be a focused answer or carry through to a memorandum, pleading, affidavit, motion, application, factum, brief, contract or written submission for the lawyer’s review and use. Our interest is in the substance of the work. Finding an authority is a beginning. The value lies in testing the answer against the facts, considering competing positions and carrying the reasoning into clear, usable writing. Lexoutsource's Founder, Irshad Motala, remains involved in most assignments and works directly with instructing lawyers. His longstanding interest in research and written legal work continues to shape the service, its methods and the standards applied to each new file. Nearly 700 lawyers and more than 5,000 matters have contributed to that experience, with assignments from every province and territory. The service has grown through returning instructions, referrals and continuing relationships. LexOutsource has been mentioned in CBA National, CanLII-hosted scholarship and industry research. Public reviews and lawyer testimonials offer another view of the work. Scope, timing and budget are discussed at the outset, with prepaid hours, hourly billing and fixed-fee arrangements available.
