In 1975, when they began their career in video, Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne created Dérives, an organisation to help them produce their documentaries. In 1977, Dérives was recognised as a Belgian French Community cinematographic and videographic workshop and very quickly began to produce documentaries by other filmmakers. Dérives was also to become the organisation that produced the first works of fiction by the Dardennes (one short film and two feature length). In 1994, with the aim of separating their “documentaries” and “fictional work” and at the time that they had just started making their third feature film, « La Promesse », the Dardenne brothers founded the society Les Film du Fleuve. The objective of this production house was not only to finance their own fictional work, but also to collaborate with foreign producers and directors on artistically ambitious projects. In 1999, following the magnificent success of « Rosetta » all over the world, Luc and Jean-Pierre Dardenne decided to add a new dimension to their activities as producers by increasing their team and setting new objectives. Today, Les Films du Fleuve is well established on the cinematographic landscape, thanks to not only the films by the Dardenne Brothers but also the quality of projects and directors supported – Ken Loach, Costa Gavras, Jacques Audiard, Laurent Herbiet,…

With the record number of 30,500 visitors, 262 international guests, 424 press and professional accreditations, and 192 screenings in 2018, Luxembourg City Film Festival has firmly established itself as the nation’s leading cinema event. Since its inception in 2011 it is one of Europe’s festivals with the most spectacular growth. Supported by the Ministry of Culture and the City of Luxembourg, it is the country’s official film festival. With this in mind, the Festival is committed to presenting high-quality, exclusive content of undeniable artistic value, featuring a vast panorama of contemporary fiction and documentary films, special screenings, and an extensive young audiences programme in the three partner cinema complexes (Ciné Utopia, Kinepolis Kirchberg, and the Cinémathèque de la Ville de Luxembourg). Besides these cinema screenings, the Festival also dares to venture beyond film theatres, hosting events, workshops, exhibitions and concerts in many of the capital’s cultural institutions, and cooperating with international partners, among others the United Nations, diplomatic representations, and the European Film Academy. Luxembourg City Film Festival's 14th edition will take place from 29th February >10th March 2024.
