Leopold Method Information

Leopold Method is an Australian football publication focused on providing insightful, intelligent match analysis and in-depth feature articles. ‘The Little Professor’ Leopold Baumgartner, arguably Australia’s first football marquee, inspires the name. He arrived in 1958, during a period of rapid expansion for the sport coinciding with the arrival of football loving immigrants. Shaun Mooney launched Leopold Method in December 2012 through a collaboration of like-minded writers – Kate Cohen, Tim Palmer and Brett Taylor. Shortly afterwards Joe Gorman joined the team. Within five months Leopold Method was finalist for 2013 FFDU ‘Football Website of the Year Award’, pitting it against SBS’s The World Game and FourFourTwo Australia. In 2014 the site would also again be finalist for the same award. Our contributors were successful in winning individual awards. Kate Cohen won 2013 ‘Young Writer of the Year (Digital)’ and 2014 ‘Digital Writer of the Year’. Joe Gorman won 2014 ‘Blogger of the Year’ and was finalist for ‘Digital Writer of the Year’. Brett Taylor was finalist for 2013 ‘Digital Writer of the Year’. As Leopold Method moved into covering its second A-League season, our contributors were presented with greater opportunities. Brett Taylor took up the role of Performance Analyst at Melbourne City; Joe Gorman, Kate Cohen and Shaun Mooney contribute for The Guardian Australia; Joe was also published in Sports Illustrated and Kate writes regularly for Liverpool FC’s website; and Tim Palmer is a regular contributor for FourFourTwo Australia. This is something we at Leopold Method are very proud of. As football knowledge improves in Australia, and the modern game seeks to reconcile with its past, Leopold Method aims to play a leading role in breaking down the general assumptions and myths that permeate our sport. We aim to educate, inform and entertain.
