Ceres Nanosciences Inc. ("Ceres") is a privately held life sciences company engaged in the research, development, and commercialization of innovative sample preparation products, based on its proprietary Nanotrap® technology.
The Nanotrap® technology, coupled with existing research and clinical diagnostic platforms, improves the sensitivity and accuracy of a wide array of critical diagnostic processes. Early detection of biomarkers, in particular those of low abundance, is key to the diagnosis and treatment of diseases such as cancer, cardiac, and infectious diseases, resulting in improved patient benefit and reduced health care costs.
Ceres currently sells the Nanotrap® technology for use in a broad range of research and diagnostic applications.
For over 30 years Biomark has been the worldwide supplier in electronic, Passive Integrated Transponder, or PIT tag identification technology to the aquaculture and natural resource communities.
PIT tags are used to permanently identify individual animals. Beginning with fisheries studies, the use of PIT tags has expanded to include mammals, reptiles, amphibians, birds and many other animals and objects. More recently, the aquaculture sector has embraced this technology realizing the value of PIT technology use as a reliable and effective method of research, monitoring, and management of individual animals.
PIT tags, also known as ‘microchips’ or electronic identification (EID) allow researchers to safely mark most species internally without altering external appearance. In almost all cases the tag will stay with the animal for its entire life cycle. The small size of PIT tags virtually eliminate any negative impact on animals with little or no influence on growth-rate, behavior, and health or predator susceptibility when tagged using best practices and methods.
In the 1990s Biomark pioneered the first commercially available custom PIT tag detection systems as well as tagging and data collection tables. During the next decade Biomark played a major role in designing and developing fabrication techniques to reliably operate PIT tag antennas underwater (a major breakthrough in evaluation and monitoring technique). Biomark has emerged as a worldwide leader in PIT tag solutions and software for fisheries, aquaculture and wildlife. From innovative, first of their kind, tag injection systems, waterproof readers and automated data collection stations, to individual identification systems coupled with biomass estimation, Biomark delivers the best in products and services to its customers.
Biomark is Merck Animal Health Intelligence’s electronic identification and monitoring solution for conservation and aquaculture.
